The Women's Learning Partnership views women's rights to be fundamental human rights held by all women regardless of culture, class, or creed.

WLP strives to raise public awareness of, and mobilize international support for, human rights claims made by women in the Global South, particularly women in Muslim-majority societies. We aim to advance the cause of women’s human rights through advocacy work, mobilizing grassroots activists in support of women’s rights and bolstering partner organizations’ advocacy for policy and legislative change.

Human Rights Campaigns

In cooperation with our partner organizations, we engage in campaigns for women’s human rights, such as Claiming Equal Citizenship: The Campaign for Arab Women's Right to Nationality, Iran's One Million Signatures Campaign or Equality Without Reservation: Eliminating CEDAW Reservations in the Arab Region.

Human Rights Publications

As part of the WLP Translation Series, we publish unique advocacy tools for the advancement of women’s human rights, such as the Guide to Equality in the Family in the Maghreb, which focuses on strategies for the reform of family law in Muslim-majority societies.

Human Rights Resources

To encourage cross-border solidarity and facilitate activists’ campaign research, we provide a collection of online resources with relevance to women’s human rights, including comparative information on family laws that affect the lives of women and girls in Muslim-majority societies.

Human Rights Alerts

WLP issues human rights alerts to raise awareness of urgent human rights challenges faced by our partner organizations, as well as to mobilize support for important campaigns.

December 14, 2011 | Claiming Equal Citizenship, Claiming Equal Citizenship, Human Rights, Lebanon, Middle East, political participation
In its meeting of 12 December 2011, the current Cabinet endorsed a draft law to reinstate Lebanese nationality to emigrants of Lebanese descent.  However, the draft law was endorsed after “minor modifications” according to the current Minister of Interior, Brigadier Marwan Charbel.  The “minor modification” was the specification that Lebanese descent shall be limited to fathers and grandfathers only - Not mothers or grandmothers.  The “minor modification” is yet again further proof of Lebanon’s persistent patriarchal mindset which clearly considers citizenship to be a male attribute.WLP would like to share the following statement on behalf of the Arab Women's Right to Nationality Campaign in Lebanon, part of WLP's regional Claiming Equal Citizenship campaign.
