The WLP partnership is a unique and forward-looking model for international training, capacity-building, and advocacy campaigns. Our partners are not just partners with WLP, but work in collaboration with one another to promote women’s rights, development, and peace.

WLP serves as a catalyst for introducing organizations to one another, and supports their joint projects. WLP facilitates the exchange of ideas and the implementation of cooperative programs across countries and continents through its online communications, training workshops, international conferences, and through its Regional Hubs.

WLP’s Regional Hubs

WLP has a number of growing Regional Hubs that serve as regional representatives of WLP, replicating WLP’s partnership model at the local level. Using local infrastructure, expertise, and experience, WLP’s Regional Hubs lead training workshops, assist with strategic planning, and coordinate advocacy campaigns with organizations outside partner countries in their region (or organizations with whom they share a language). Each Hub works a little differently, adapting WLP programs and resources to meet specific needs in their region.

Programs and Projects of WLP’s Regional Hubs

WLP Hubs are led by local women’s organizations that are democratically organized, well-established, widely respected, and influential. While the Hub organizations collaborate on numerous projects with the WLP partnership, and often take the lead on internal partnership peer-to-peer exchanges, their governance and management are entirely independent. WLP Regional Hubs receive technical and resource support from WLP, and in turn share their materials and expertise with other organizations in the WLP partnership, and beyond.

Among the many programs and projects coordinated by WLP Regional Hubs are the following:

  • Mentoring: Representatives of WLP partners travel to other local and regional organizations as well as communicate by phone and internet, to brainstorm, trouble-shoot, and advise each other on their programs and projects.
  • Capacity Building : The Regional Hub mentors are from organizations that have already undergone WLP’s flexible and adaptable strategic planning, and use their knowledge and experience to help guide others through the strategic planning process. Capacity building mentors may work with organizations on a single capacity building workshop, or develop an advisory relationship that lasts years.
  • Training of Trainers: WLP’s manuals, videos, eCourses, and web archives guide and inform workshop trainers around the world. Many of the trainers who use the WLP resources were initially trained in workshops facilitated by WLP’s Regional Hubs. Often the workshop facilitators are from a different region or country than the trainees. This is done on purpose to promote the exchange of fresh ideas and new strategies between the two organizations.
  • Leadership Workshops, Political Activism Workshops, Violence Against Women Workshops, IT Training Workshops: WLP Regional Hubs coordinate the testing, revising and translating of WLP manuals. They also extend WLP’s outreach and impact.
  • Advocacy Campaigns: The Regional Hubs implement and strengthen regional campaigns, raise the visibility of partner campaigns, and lead women’s rights reform efforts. Working with women’s organizations, advocacy groups, politicians, and the public, the Regional Hubs organize rallies and host events for activists, policy-makers, media, and the public.
